植物の世代交代の方法は植物によって異なる

　昨日の夕刻から一晩中、雨が降り、庭は潤い、井戸水が涸れることはないでしょう。庭の植物たちは太陽光と水で光合成し、一斉に活気づき、本格的な春になります。ご覧の植物は亡父が半世紀以上前にどこからか手に入れた枝垂れレンギョウで、昨年の秋、私がここに植え替えました。

　一般的に、植物は種がこぼれ、地中から芽が出て増えます。しかし、枝垂れレンギョウは根元から子供が生え、成長すると親が次第に枯れて行きます。ですから世代交代の方法は君子蘭に似てます。

The plant you see is a weeping forsythia that my late father obtained somewhere more than half a century ago, and I replanted here last autumn.

 Generally, seeds spill out and new shoots emerge from the ground. However, the child of weeping forsythia appears from the root, and as it grows up, parent gradually die. So the way of changing generation is similar to Kaffir lily.
