コンビニの 女性スタッフと ヒンズー語で

【２０代の一コマです。】

　近くのコンビニのスタッフはネパール女性です。私は幾度も訪れてるので、すでに互いに顔見知りです。ネパールの言葉はネパール語ですが、隣の国のインドのヒンズー語と似てることから、私は、昔覚えたヒンズー語で話しかけると彼女は目を丸くして嬉しそうに応対してくれます。

　最近のコンビニでは、支払い機を使うので、売り手も買い手も楽になりましたが、そのために人間関係が稀薄にならぬよう必ず言葉を掛けるようにしています。それは遠い国から外国である日本へ働きに来ているので何かと不安であろうと思うからです。例えば「今日は大変に暑いですが、お元気ですか。いくらですか。お国お父さん、お母さんはお元気ですか。有難うございます。」位の事です。

　しかし、彼女にとってヒンズー語で話しかける客は殆どいないらしく、いつもにこにこ応対してくれます。これからも、身近な国際交流を大切にしたいと思います。

 The staff is a young Nepalese lady at a nearby convenience store where I have visited many times, so we are already acquaintances each other. The language in Nepal is Nepali, but because it is similar to Hindi that is Indian language due to neighboring countries. When I speak to her in Hindi which I memorized a long time ago in Calcutta in my young days, she opens her eyes and responds happily.

 These days, at convenience stores, it became easier for sellers and buyers due to using machine, but I always try to speak to her to avoid that relationship is liable to be poor. That's because she came to Japan to work from a distant foreign country, so I'm worried about her situation. For instance,"It's very hot today, how are you? How much is it? How are your father and mother in Nepal? Thank you" like that.

 However, it seems that there are no customers who speak Hindi to her. She always responds to me with a smile. I'd like to continue to valuable and familiar international exchanges.
