欅の木 想像つかない 歴史持つ

　以前にお知らせしましたように、我が家の比較的近くにある巨大な欅の樹齢は推定５００年です。ところが、ご覧の通り地上から１０ｍ程の高さの幹の中央に不思議な穴が開いてます。その大きさは直径５０ｃｍ位です。何故、開いてるのでしょう。私はここを通る度に考えます。先ず、開いたのはいつ頃でしょうか。持ち主に訊いても「昔から開いてました。」とのことです。しかし、高齢の彼も近年亡くなりました。

　このため、この欅の寿命は人間の生涯とは比較にならないほど長いのでしょう。巨樹に比べると人の一生は意外と短いので一日一日大切に生きなければなりません。それにしてもこの穴は、もしかして、戦争の傷跡でしょうか。欅だけがその理由と歴史を知ってます。
