分かり難い 月の満ち欠け 上弦・下弦

　今朝、ラジオ体操会場で見た下弦の月です。ところで、上弦の月とは新月から満月に向かって日に日に明るい部分が大きくなる月で、逆に下弦の月とは、満月以降、次第に明るい部分が小さくなる月です。結果的に、早朝に東側が光っている場合が下弦の月で、夕方、西側が光っていれば上弦の月です。

　または、上弦や下弦という名前は「月が西に沈むとき」弦(影の線)が上にあれば上弦の月で、弦が下にあれば下弦の月です。

　日本語での名称は日本人にも分かり難いですが，英語では日に日に大きくなる月をwaxing moonと言い、日に日に小さくなる月をwaning moonと言うので英語の方が分かりやすいですね。

　なお、１２月３日までは下弦の月です。このように月が満ち欠けするのは月が地球の周りを反時計回りに公転してるので、地球から見て、太陽光の月への当たり方が変化するからです。
