暑いとつい インド時代が 蘇る

　朝から誠にお暑ございます。このように暑いと、若き日のインド滞在中を思い出します。５月が夏休みで毎日このような暑さでしたが、８月は学校があり、夏休みではありませんでした。

　お金については表が英語で書かれ、裏がインド各州の言葉でした。よく使ったヒンディー語は「ガラム」と「バニー」でした。前者は暑いね。後者は水です。

　今日のことはアッジ、今はアビ、これはイエです。よく使った便利な言葉はイエキアハイで意味は「これは何ですか。」これを使えば何でも訊けました。アッチゃは元気など、よいことをすべて指します。悪いことは何でもアッチャ―ネーです。アッチャーラルキーは何でしょう。

　たまには今でもヒンディー語を使いたいのですが、近年はインドの方が倉賀野にあまりいません。

例年より 今年の夏は 生き難い

　現在、庭に咲いてるユリは色彩豊かで、３種類【黄色、薄紫、赤系統の八重】です。未だ写真に載せなかったのがこの八重のユリで、花弁がたくさんあります。花弁の数は一重のユリの３倍ほどです。

　昨日書きました通り、今夏はどんなユリが咲くか私自身にも分かりませんでした。しかし、結果的にどれも見応えがあります。今年は色を植木鉢に記録しておきます。

　ところで、ウクライナへの侵攻による影響は両国に留まらず、この夏は日本でも重大です。それはガソリン価格の連続的高騰、火力発電の燃料不足による電気料金の値上がり、小麦不足により食料品の一斉値上げ、併せて、円安による世界経済の低迷で私たちの生活は脅かされてます。

　更に、今夏は梅雨明けの時期が例年に比較して３週間ほど早まり、猛暑の連続でクーラーを使わなくてはなりません。

　皆さん、熱中症を防ぐには「朝食を簡単に済ませてはなりません。」また、体調維持には涼しいうちに、涼しい場所で筋肉増強と血流を良くする運動を励行しましょう。

バット咲く ユリの見事さ 学びたい

　今年は何色のユリが咲くか、咲くまで分からなかったです。というのは、昨年、私がユリの植木鉢に色を記録してなかったためです。ご存じの通り、ユリは秋になると全く影形が無くなり、翌春に芽が出てきます。

　今日から２種類のユリが咲き始め、もう一種は八重のユリで明日にでもご覧に入れます。写真のユリは大輪です。蕾が５～６個ついてます。このユリは優雅という言葉が似合います。

　これからも背の高い色彩のよいユリを育てるつもりです。

今夏も行う 榛名湖一周 ウォーキング

　以前に数回、私は群馬県の榛名湖一周ウォーキングをしました。今年の夏も行うつもりです。このため以前に書いたブログを読み返してみました。

　下界は連日、猛暑に覆われ湿度も５０％以上であり、私の住む群馬県平野部の高崎市は３５℃～３８℃です。日本の気候は大陸より湿度があるので一層不快に感ずるのでしょう。

　一昨日の午前中、Audi TT Quattroを走らせ、途中カーブの連続を通過し、暫くぶりに写真の榛名湖に着きました。夏休みにしては想ったより観光客が少なく、私は平素の運動不足解消をめざし、今回、湖畔を一周するウォーキングをめざしました。しかし、歩いてもそれほど汗をかきません。

　海抜と温度の関係は、一般には１００ｍ上がると１度下がるといわれ、榛名湖の海抜は１０８４ｍで、私が家の海抜と比較すると約１０００ｍの違いがあり、単純計算では１０°気温が低いことになります。しかも、湖水を渡る空気はひんやりし、足は前へ前へと進みます。

　一方、気圧に関しては、100ｍ登ると約10hPa気圧が下がるので、榛名湖の気圧はおよそ９００hPaでしょう。

　榛名山の中央部は標高１３９０ｍのコニーデ榛名富士と、カルデラ湖である榛名湖です。周囲は外輪山に囲まれ、主な外輪山は水沢山、相馬山、烏帽子岳などで、最高峰は掃部ヶ岳(かもんがだけ)１４４９ｍです。

　今回はこれらの山を仰ぎながら、一周６㎞の榛名湖をウォーキングしました。一部、湖畔を歩けない場所があり、少々遠回りし、実際に歩いた距離は６．５Ｋｍほどです。この距離を休憩なしで、反時計回りに１時間３０分で歩き、よい運動になりました。

　最近、運動について考えることの一つは、「必要以上に心拍数を上げないこと」が健康長寿に大切ではないかということです。以前はジムで１３０～１４０まで上げたことがありますが、健康上は何の意味もなく、それどころか必要以上に心拍数を上げることは心臓に負担を強いることになり「害はあっても益はない」と判断しました。

　あくまで一般論ですが、若い頃、運動で連日のように心拍数を上げた場合、老齢になってそれが健康につながることは関係ないように思います。心臓の働きは生涯続くことから「長く安定して脈打つこと」ではないでしょうか。

　心拍数を上げるとしても「血流を活性化するために」せいぜい平素の１．５倍を限度とし、数値としては心拍数１１０前後が望ましいと考えます。人間の最大心拍数は２２０－年齢といわれますが、これは健康とは無関係です。

　その点、「速い競歩でなく、また、ゆっくりした散歩でない、ウォーキング」は快適な心拍数の維持であり、心臓に負荷をかけ過ぎることはないと考えます。

　ポイントは前方を見ながら、腕を振り「必ず踵で着地します。」足腰の骨を丈夫にする意識で、身体全体に響くように着地します。腕を振ることで血流がスムースになるでしょう。

　連日の猛暑で下界でのウォーキングはできません。夏季は湖水や涼しいところを選んで行き、時々、ウォーキングしたいものです。

　帰路は、日本の名湯「伊香保温泉の露天風呂」に立ち寄り、足腰の疲労回復に努めました。昨今はすぐに入れる温泉が各地にあり、運動した後はとても快適です。

　ウォーキングはインナーマスルを始め「全身の筋肉を使う運動」です。「栄養」「運動」「睡眠」のバランスを取りたいものです。しかし、人間の心は弱いもの。私たちは「継続的に運動」する強い心を持ちたいものです。

投票こそ 意思を政治に 反映できる

　７月１０日投開票の参院選で、総務省が公表した「一票の格差」は最大３倍以上です。「一票の格差」については裁判にもなってます。

　それにもかかわらず、前回行われた参院選(令和元年7月)の投票率は４８．８％であり、２人に１人が投票に行きませんでした。

樹木医に なったつもりで よく観察

　庭で植物を育てていると気づきます。樹木も人間の身体に似て、時には調子が悪い時があります。そのようなとき、結果的にあまり花が咲きません。原因を考え、樹木医のように、きちんと処方しなくてしなりません。

　写真の藤は、昨年、蔓が全く出なくて、今春は多くの枝が枯れ、花が殆ど咲きませんでした。

　このため、私は全体の約半分の枝を剪定し、毎日たくさんの水を与えたところ、ご覧の通り、今春は息を吹き返し、多くの蔓が出てきました。剪定の効果がありました。

　藤は蔓が出れば調子がよい証拠で、もう枯れることはないでしょう。来春、豪華な赤紫の花が期待できます。

　言葉が話せない植物に対し、人間はよく観察し、今、何を欲しているか把握する力を今後も養いたいと思います。

　別件です。先日、上顎洞を手術しましたが、本日、その抜糸を行います。お陰様で、術後の経過はよいです。

　The wisteria in the photo had no vines last year, and as a result, many branches died this spring, of course, almost no flowers bloomed.

　For this reason, I pruned about half of the branches and gave her a lot of water every day. As you can see, she came back to life and many vines came out. Pruning was effective.

目立ちます 大きな黄色の ハイビスカス

大理石 年月経過 ものともせず

タイトル・・・増加する空き家に思う

　近年、空き家が増えつつあります。保全状況も悪く、安全、衛生、景観の面からも多くの問題があるようです。昔は「空き家」といえば、居住者のいない貸家を言い「空き家あります」という張り紙をよく見かけた。最近では、住む人がなく、荒れ果てた家、つまり、廃屋を意味するようになりました。見る影もなくなったあばら家の玄関に、訪問営業対策の「只今、金欠中」というプレートがそのままに残っているのを見ると、おかしくもありますが、忍びないものです。荒れるに任せて放置された空き家には訪れる人の影もなく、見かけるのは主(あるじ)顔(がお)した野良猫ばかり。草ぼうぼうの庭の一角に、すべすべした幹と樹皮の美しい夏ツバキ（沙羅(しゃら)の木）の白い花が人待ち顔で咲いています。

英語力 日本人は 世界で７８位

【写真は最初の就職で住んでいたインド時代のお土産の一つて、今でも青春の思い出の品として部屋に飾ってあります。

　日本の英語の授業では「自らの考え、感想を英語で話す教育」は殆どなく、英語の授業でも日本語で説明してる場合が多いかもしれません。もし、英語の授業を英語のみで行い、生徒も英語で答えることを原則にすれば、彼らの英語力は一段と向上するのではないでしょうか。

　日本人の英語能力は世界で７８位で、アジアでも１位シンガポール、２位フィリピン、３位マレーシアで、日本は１１位と言われてます。【2021年英語能力指数のEFによる】

　今後、世界共通語である英語の必要性は仕事上、益々高まります。第一段階として、先ず、ネイティブスピーカーは指導助手でなく、正規の教員として担任を持ったらどうでしょう。生徒は今までと変わらざるを得なくなるでしょう。

手術済み 嘘のように 腫れ引いた

　ブログをご覧の方々にもご心配をお掛けしました。お陰様で手術は３０分程度で成功に終わり、今では、ほっぺの腫れも引き、只今帰宅しました。

　部分麻酔して、右の奥歯と犬歯の上に穴をあけ、鼻の臓器である上顎洞の中に溜まってた物質を取り除き、今度は管を入れて流れるようにしました。管は日にちが経てばなくなるとのことです。

　殆ど痛くなく、現代医学の恩恵に浴しました。執刀医はもちろん、目をつぶっていたため見えなかったですが、手術に立ち会って吸引してくださった女性看護師さんのお顔を見てお礼を申し上げ、病院を後にしました。

上顎洞 予定通りに 手術です

　今日、６月１７日に予定通り、高崎医療センターで鼻の臓器の一つである上顎洞の手術を受けます。

　日本でも、高齢者や生活困窮者、そして学校やもしかして家庭で精神的に生き辛さを抱えてる子供たちに目を向けた相談窓口を整える必要は喫緊の課題です。

　孤独や孤立は、将来、誰にでも起こりうることで、人は皆いつかは孤独の淵に立ちます。真に支えを必要とする人々に対し、社会全体で温かい手を差し伸べたいものです。

飲めるまで 二か月間を じっと待つ

　高い木に枇杷が生っていたので、安全を期して梯子を使わず、先程、高枝切狭で「枇杷」を収穫しました。鳥に食べられたものを捨て、傷のないもののみ収穫しましたが、これを私がすべて食べ切るのに1週間ほどかかるでしょう。

　枇杷酒を作るには種を残しておき、種のみを使います。良く水洗いしてから、瓶に入れ、焼酎と、氷砂糖を適度に入れて密閉し、２か月ほど経過したら飲みますが、アルコール度が強いので飲むときは水割りにします。

　今年の夏も暑いでしょうから、夕食にビールを飲んだ後、今後の幸せを期して一杯戴きます。

今年こそ 美味しい枇杷酒 飲めるかな

　梅雨に入って、品種名「長崎クイーン」という枇杷が鈴なりです。高い所に生ってるので気づくのが遅れ、野鳥に少し食べられましたが、野鳥には毎日、その姿と声に癒されてるので少しはプレゼントです。

大切な 鼻の働き 再確認

　どなたにも顔面の中には、鼻の臓器である副鼻腔が４対あり、その役目は、鼻粘膜の乾燥予防や空気濾過、また、脳を冷やしたり、声の響きに関与するとされてます。

朝起きて 西南見ると 荒船山

　群馬県の遥か西南部に位置するテーブルマウンテン「荒船山」(標高１４２３m)が私の家の窓から見える日は天気がいいです。ご覧の通り、山頂が平らな山容は先史時代に周囲が陥没し、硬い岩のみが残ったのでしょう。

　近年、私がこの山を登頂したのは親しかった友人と二人でした。平らな山頂の端から端までは歩いて約１時間で、正に高天原です。

　この時は数羽のレース鳩を持って行き、山頂から放しました。５０㎞の距離はレース鳩にとっては簡単だったようで、私より早く皆帰って来てました。目のよい鳩は山頂から私の家が見えたのかもしれません。

　年齢を重ねた今、体力・気力について考えることは「充分な睡眠」「朝食をしっかり」「適度な運動」が必須で、現代社会に遅れない気持ちが欠くべからざる要素でしょう。「荒船山」に一緒に登頂した友はすでにこの世にいない。

筋肉こそ 生活基盤 増やしたい

　最近サボってるウォーキングですが、昨日は倉賀野緑地まで往復４Kほどを歩き、途中、江戸と日光への分岐点である閻魔堂に立ち寄りました。また、旧石器時代以前より休むことなく流れる烏川の畔を新鮮な空気を吸いつつ歩くと、脳に酸素が行き届くのでしょう。いろいろ考えが浮かびます。

健康と 歴史探訪兼ね 倉賀野を歩く

　今日は午前9時３０分から、古の倉賀野を散策しました。もちろんウォーキングの速度です。最初に九品寺に立ち寄り、先祖に挨拶しました。

　その後、東へと歩き、昔の倉賀野が江戸と日光への追分、つまり分岐点であること示す閻魔堂の常夜灯を見学し、改めて倉賀野の地理的意味を確認しました。

　１１時には帰宅し、早速、蛋白質補充のため濃厚豆乳を一杯飲みました。帰宅直後の脈拍は１０５です。

これは何？ 幾何学模様 もうすぐ開花

　まるで筍のように天に向かって伸びているこの植物は何でしょう。しかも、自然が織りなす見事な幾何学模様です。

　実は、一か所にすごく増えてしまったので、去年の秋に私が球根を分散して植え替えたグラジオラスです。写真はその蕾です。開花すると黄色とピンクが咲きます。

隣の子 取れるか点を 英語のテスト

　今日は比較的充実した時間が過ごせました。午前中は倉賀野公民館で女性コーラスの練習会を聴きに行ってました。暫くぶりに「落葉松」など日本の名曲を三部合唱で聴き、楽しめました。

運動と 蛋白質で 筋肉づくり

今宵こそ 「バク」で人間 取り戻す

　今宵は１ヶ月振りに高崎の小料理屋「バク」を訪れ、夕食を摂る予定です。この店に初めて行ったのは海外日本人学校の勤務経験を持つ先生方の会で、二次会として連れてってもらったのが初めてです。

　先日、彼の投稿文が上毛新聞「ひろば」に掲載されたので、今宵はそのお祝です。では、高崎線に乗って行って参ります。二次会は行きませんのでご安心ください。

年重ね 美的なものに 惹かれます

　多年草や球根で咲くユリなどは人間が何もしなくても、毎年５～６月が来ると開花するので便利です。あるいは、半永久的です。

　写真はダリアの一種で「マジョーレ」です。まるで小学生が絵に描いたようで、しかも、花弁の中と縁の色が違っていて配置が美的です。

　私が子供の頃、父はダリアが好きで夏になると前の川から水を運び、水遣りしてましたが、私もその年になり、父と同様の心境なのかもしれません。

　群馬県は梅雨入りし、植物に水遣りする必要がなく、それでも植物はますます成長し、自然は有り難いものです。

　お陰様で、年を重ねても(気持ちは未だ２０代)、音楽や植物に心を奪われ、まあまあ充実した日々を過ごしてます。

　子供の頃、１９世紀末に生まれた父から「日露戦争に勝った話」をよく聞きましたが、具体的な内容はあまり分かりませんでした。

今年は行こう 梅雨の晴れ間の ビアガーデン

　気象庁は2022年6月6日「関東甲信地方が梅雨入りした」と発表しました。 前年（2021年）より8日早く、平年より1日早い梅雨入りです。

　これから7月中旬まで、つまり、私の誕生日頃まで、じめじめし、蒸し暑く不快な日々が続きます。しかし、梅雨があるからこそ自然から食料が確保できる恩恵を感じつつ、心は晴れやかに過ごしたいものです。

　梅雨の晴れ間には、暫くぶりに高崎高島屋屋上ビアガーデンに行ってみたいです。もうすでにオープンしてます。ここでパーティーができたら最高ですね。

　このブログに度々コメントされる通称「時計屋の隣さん」の文章が、本日の群馬県・上毛新聞の読者投稿欄「ひろば」に掲載されました。誠におめでとうございます。

　つきましては、県外の多くの皆様にも彼の文章をご紹介いたします。

タイトル「見上げる泰山木の花」

　お寺の境内で高さ10mほどの大きく枝を張った木を見かけた。葉はビワの葉より一回り大きく、葉の間の所々に２０、３０センチほどの白いものが見えた。一見、鳥のように見えたが、よく見ると、白い花が飛び飛びに咲いていた。住職に尋ね、泰山木(たいさんぼく)と知った。その威容に圧倒された。寺の境内ということもあり、天上のハスの花のように見えた。雄大な樹形と堂々とした純白の花をしばし、眺めた。

　家に帰り調べると、「ふくいくとした香りを放つ」とあった。花がまだ少ないせいか、香りは届いてこなかった。「泰山木」と漢字表記なので中国からの外来種と思ったら、米国南部が原産だった。

忘れまい 浅間の噴火と 普賢岳

　私の家の窓から活火山・浅間山(標高２５６８m)を毎日見ることができます。この写真は空気が澄んでる冬季にウォーキング途中、撮影したものです。若き日の私はこの頂上へ３回登り、噴火口の余りの大きさと深さに驚きました。

　昨日は長崎県・普賢岳の大噴火から３１年が経過しました。地元の消防団など多くの方々が警戒中に犠牲となり、心よりご冥福を祈ります。

　浅間山も私が中学生のとき大噴火し、噴煙の高さが５０００ｍ程の上空まで登り、その光景は今でも目に焼き付いてます。その後、５０Ｋ離れた私の倉賀野町でもザーザーと雨のように音を立てて細かい噴火物が降り続きました。

　浅間山と言えば、天明３年(１７８３年)に起きた大噴火では、頂上から出た溶岩流が「土石なだれ」となって麓の鎌原村を一気に襲い、同地区では４７７人が死亡したとされてます。現在でも多くの家屋が埋まったままで、鎌原村は「日本のポンペイ」とも呼ばれてます。

　実は私の庭を掘ると当時の噴火物が層になって出てきます。

現実の 自分を受け入れ 前進す

　今年はバラがよく咲ききれいです。一昨年、私が植木センターで小さなバラが一輪咲いてるのを見たとき、心から感銘しすぐに購入を決意しました。やはり、植物を手に入れるとき、開花を自らの眼で見て「その色彩に感動して」買うことです。蕾で買って、どんな花が咲くか期待してはなりません。芸術は感動こそその本質です。先日、築山の上に移植し、今後、一層大切に育てます。

　ところで、気持ちは未だ２０代ですが、最近感じることで、私たちは現実に年を重ねると今まで簡単にできたことが次第にできなくなります。

　このように自分の劣等性を感じたとき「これが自分だ」と分かって安心し、この姿勢は自らを自然体にしてくれるものです。

　その時その時の運命を受け入れ「現在の自分は何ができるか」を探したいです。昔のようにできないと思うと苦しくなります。ですから、今の自分にできることをやればよいと思います。
