　各種シャクナゲを３０年ほど育てていますが、今回、土壌作りの方法をやっと習得できたかもしれません。

　というのはご覧の通り、今春に生じた新芽がすごい樹勢で伸びているからです。すでに葉の中央には来春に咲く蕾ができています。写真の品種はクリーム色の花が咲く「フィリスコーン」と命名された西洋シャクナゲです。

　今までは市販の土を使ってましたが、今春はそれを止め、１２本すべてのシャクナゲの土を軽石とピートーモスにしました。結果的に、どれも新芽が勢い良く、来春の開花が楽しみです。やはり、排水性と保水性が大切なのでしょう。

　ところで、今日は二十四節気の「芒種」です。日本では梅雨が始まる直前で、田植えが始まる頃です。

　「芒種」の今日、私たちを載せた地球は宇宙空間の一体、どこを浮遊してるでしょうか。

　北極星側から見て、地球は公転軌道上を反時計回りに進んでます。その進行方向に向かって右側(外側)見える黄道十二星座は「さそり座」で尾の位置です。それを確認するには午前０時に真南を見ましょう。一方、今日の太陽の背景は「おうし座」です。

　I've been growing various rhododendrons in my garden, since about 30 years ago, but maybe I have finally noticed how to make soil.

　Because, as you can see, the sprouts that came out this spring are growing vigorously. There are buds that will bloom next spring in the center of the leaves. The photo shows one of the varieties of Western rhododendron named "Philiscorn" with cream-colored flowers.

　Until now, I used commercially available soil, but this spring I stopped it and changed all 12 rhododendron soils to pumice stones and peat moss. As a result, all the shoots are vigorous and I am looking forward to the flowering next spring. After all, drainage and water retention are important.　　

 

　By the way, today is the "Bohshu" of 24 solar terms. In Japan, just before the rainy season begins, and rice planting begins.
