我が季節 到来とばかり 手ぐすね引く

　今夏は一段と枝を広げ、南国の樹木らしくなっている「サルスベリ」です。温帯に属する日本の樹木は一般的に上に成長しますが、熱帯や亜熱帯原産の植物は枝が横に広がる傾向です。自然は良く出来ていて暑い国では枝が横に広がって日陰を作るのでしょう。

　例年、サルスベリの開花は７月上旬です。このため、樹木の上の方が幾分か赤くなってるように見えます。でも、よく観察すると未だ蕾を作る新たな小枝は生じてません。太陽光と水を栄養とし巨樹化しています。

　最近では、前の道を通る人がその大きさに感嘆するようで「何の木ですか。」と度々質問されます。咲けば分かるのですが、その都度、倉賀野ではもしかして最も大きい「サルスベリです。」と応えます。

　人間の私たちも肉体のみならず、精神もしっかり大地に根を張り、感染病や物価高、ウクライナへの侵攻により危機に瀕してる現代社会をしっかり生き抜かねばならない。

　This summer, "Crape myrtle" in the garden has expanded its branches and has become more like a tropical tree. Generally, Japanese trees in the temperate zone grow up vertically, but plants of tropical or subtropical origin tend to stretch the branches laterally. In a hot country like India where nature is well-made, the branches will spread sideways to create shade for humans.

　Crape myrtle blooms in early July every year in Japan. As you see in the photo, the top of the tree looks somewhat redder. However, if I look closely, there are still no new twigs that make buds. The giant tree makes oxygen by photosynthesizing using sunlight and water as nutrients.

　Recently, people who pass the way in front seem to be admired for its big size, so they often asked me, "What kind of tree is it?" When it blooms, they can see, each time I answer, "It seems the biggest crape myrtle in this district."

　We human beings must firmly root not only our bodies but also our spirits in the ground like the crape myrtle, and survive the modern society that is in danger due to infectious diseases, high prices, and the invasion into Ukraine by the big power.
