処暑の今日、地球は公転軌道のどこを進んでいるか

　今日8月23日は二十四節季の一つ「処暑」です。公転軌道を秒速約２９㎞という物凄い速度で私たちを載せて進んでいる地球は、一体、公転軌道上のどこを今日は通過中でしょうか。

　でも、宇宙空間にはこれと言った目印になるものはありません。強いて言えば、動かずに輝く恒星でできてる「黄道１２星座」です。

　太陽が東から出て、西に沈むことで分かるように、私たちの地球は北極星側から見て反時計回りに自転し、一方、星座も日に日に東から西へ移動することで、地球は反時計回りに公転していることが分かります。

　このため、地球の進行方向に向かって外側を見れば、その答えが出ます。つまり、午前０時の真南の星座を見れば現在の地球の位置が分かります。

　実は、私たちの地球は現在、「水瓶座」の方角に差し掛かってます。「水瓶座」は大変に珍しく水瓶の底が天の赤道に接してます。私が初めて水瓶座を見たとき余りの大きさに感動しました。

　北半球で見ると「水瓶座」は上下が逆なので、身体を北に向けて天を仰げば水瓶の口が上になり、底が下に見えます。

　When we view in the northern hemisphere, "Aquarius" is upside down, so if you turn your body to the north and look up at the sky, the mouth of the "Aquarius" will be up and the bottom will be down.
