一年で かなり成長 シャクナゲたち

　日本では、二十四節気の「立冬」が過ぎ、季節は「小雪」に向かってます。低温に弱く、比較的若い鉢植えの西洋シャクナゲは温室で育てるべきですが、温室がないので日当たりのよい廊下に並べました。高さは７０～８０cmで、重さはどれも２０Kg～３０Kgですので、室内に運ぶのが重くてやっとのことで今朝並べました。

　今日は「家族の日」。ここに見える君子蘭、金の生る木、そして５本の西洋シャクナゲはこれから３月いっぱい室内で冬を過ごし、私にとって、これらの植物は家族です。

　最近気づいたことですが、鉢植えの植物には水を与え過ぎないことです。受け皿に水が溜まってはなりません。根腐れします。つまり、毎日観察し表面が乾いたら、私たちが喉を潤す程度に根元に水を与えます。

　それにしても、庭にあったときは小さく感じましたが、室内に入れたらあまりにも大きいので驚き、１年でかなり成長してることが感じられます。

　2本の大きな日本シャクナゲと４本の西洋シャクナゲは外で冬を越します。開花は２月～３月の君子蘭に始まり、その後、４月～５月はシャクナゲ園のように色とりどりたくさん咲きます。その時は見にいらしてください。

Dear my overseas friends who like rhododendrons

  Here in Japan, in the 24 solar calendar terms, "Rittoh" that means the first day of winter has passed, and the season is heading for "Shohsetsu" that indicates the beginning of snowy season. Relatively young potted rhododendrons are vulnerable to low temperatures, so that it should be grown in a greenhouse, but since I don't have a greenhouse, I arranged them in a sunny hallway. The rhododendron's height is 70-80 cm, and the weight is 20-30 kg that was heavy to carry to the hallway, so I finally arranged them this morning.

  "Today is Family Day." in our nation. The kaffir lilies, money trees, and five western rhododendrons that you see here will spend the winter indoors till the end of March. Therefore these plants are my family members.

  I've recently noticed that potted plants shouldn't be overwatered. Water should not accumulate in the saucer. Root tends to rot. In other words, we observe daily and when the surface is dry, we give water to the roots, the same as we quench our throat.

  Even so, when it was outside I felt small , but when I put it inside, I was surprised at how big they became since last year.

  A large two Japanese rhododendrons and four western rhododendrons spend outside during winter. Flowering starts from February to March with kaffir lily, and then from April to May, it blooms in many colors like a rhododendron garden. Please come and see at that time.
