「三つ子の魂百まで」は植物にも当てはまる

　次女の長女が誕生した記念に植えた「源平枝垂れ」(下の写真)は築山の頂上で大きく育ち、毎年「桃の節句」に、文字通り、紅白二色に咲き分け、大きく枝垂れてます。今年も４月中旬に開花します。

　ところが、この「源平枝垂れ」の種子が、毎年、百個ほど落下し、そのままにしておくと翌春に子供がたくさん生えます。その中から、発育のよいものを毎年選んで育てます。

　写真左上は生まれて２年目で、右は同じ幼木が３年経過したものです。バランスの取れた良い枝垂れ方をしてます。今春の開花後、私は大きな植木鉢に移植します。それにしても、すでに風貌が感じられる姿です。

　なお、幹がＳ状に曲ってるのは生後１年経過した段階で、柔らかいうちに私が少しずつ曲げて紐で固定したためです。そのまま１年経過してから紐を解くと、以後、そのまま大きく成長します。近未来、これを直植えするときは「何かの記念樹」にしたいです。

　In addition, the trunk is bent in S shape. When it is one year old, I bent it little by little while it was still soft and fixed it with a string. If I untie the string after one year has passed, it will continue to grow as it is. In the near future, when I plant this tree directly on the round, I'd like to make it a "commemorative tree for some kind of event in my life."
