生前の 母の言葉が 生きている

　数年前に東隣の土地が売りに出たので１５坪ほど購入しました。その動機は、今は亡き母の言葉が脳裏を過ったからです。明治生まれの母が生前に私に言った言葉は「昔から、地続きの土地は価値があるので借金しても買え。」ということでした。

　以前に、私の東側の土地は南北でなく、斜めでしたので、私としては南北にまっすぐにしたい気持ちもありました。このため、今がチャンスとばかり、躊躇することなく、購入を決断しました。

　ところで、その後、どんな塀にするか、あれこれ見本を見ましたが、「単純で統一されてる塀がよい」と考え、結局、今までの南側の塀と同じにしたのです。

　このデザインの塀で、ぐるっと西側まで庭を囲むことができ、ご覧の通り、隣人や前の道を通る人とも顔が見え、挨拶を交わしたり、話しをすることができます。

　特によかったのは紅梅枝垂れ、源平枝垂れなど各種樹木の開花が、この塀なら外部からよく見え、皆さんに観賞していただけることです。写真の通り、ぐるっと庭全体を同じフェンスで囲めました。 ですから、今更ながら母の教えに感謝です。

　A few years ago, the land next to the east was selling, so I bought about 50m². The motive was that the words of my late mother crossed my mind at that time. My mother who was born in 1901 in the Meiji era, said to me before she died, "Since long ago, land connected to land has value, so you can buy it even if you borrow money."

　Previously, my eastern land was diagonal rather than north-south, so I also wanted to make it straight north-south. For this reason, I decided to buy this land without hesitation, just as if now was a one-in-a-million chance.

　By the way, after that, I looked at various samples of what kind of fence to make, but I thought "a simple and unified fence would be better", so in the end, I decided to use the same fence as the one on the south side.

　The garden can be surrounded with this design all including the western side. As you can see, I can talk to my neighbors and passers-by.

　What I especially liked was that the flowering of various trees such as the red plum weeping tree and the Genpei bicolored weeping tree could be seen from the outside, so everyone could appreciate them. As you can see in the picture, I have surrounded the entire garden with the same fence. Therefore, I am still grateful for my mother's teachings.
