日本犬 その凛々しさと 魅力ある集中力

　一人暮らしである今こそ、犬と暮らしたいところですが、現実には、私自身の三度三度の食糧確保や、健康を期した運動のため、犬まで面倒見られない環境にあります。

　この犬は母を亡くした当時の次女にとって、どうしても犬を飼育したい気持ちが高まり、埼玉県から生後４ヶ月ほどの子犬で導入した柴犬のオスで、愛称は次女が付けた「コロ」でした。しかし、犬の面倒を見たのは私です。

　不思議なことに、犬は必ずしも日本語より、むしろ外国語の方が分かりやすいようです。それは日本語より、音に強弱が明瞭であるからでしょう。このため、私は最初から「コロ」には中国語で行動を命じました。

　例えば、座れは「チンツオ」、お手は「ウォーショー」、寝ろは「スイチャオ」などです。ですから、「お手」と言っても手を出しません。

　現在では多くの愛犬家が室内で飼っているようですが、私は家の中に入れたことはなく、その代わり、今でいうような「ドッグラン」的に放し飼いでした。裏庭を常に自由に一周できるように東側と西南側に鉄製の檻を付け、その中を勢いよく走り回ってました。寝る所は広い物置の中で、夜は蚊が入らないように戸を閉めてやりました。

　写真が示すように、無駄な肉のない健康的な姿勢、揺るぎない精神と張り詰めた集中力が魅力でした。私たち人間も精神面で犬から学ぶことが多いと思います。私が夜いくら遅く帰宅しても、尾を振り出迎えてくれたことが忘れられません。

　Strangely enough, dogs seem to understand foreign languages more easily than Japanese. This is probably because the strength of the sound is clearer than in Japanese I guess. For this reason, I ordered in Chinese "Koro" to act from the beginning.

　For example, "Chin tsuo" for sitting, "Wo show" for shake hand, and "Sui Chao" for lying down. Therefore, even if I say "hand" in Japanese, he did not hold out his hand for me.

　Nowadays, it seems that many dog lovers keep their dog indoors, but I have never let him inside my house. The iron cages were attached to the east and southwest sides of the backyard so that "Koro" could freely run and roam around the backyard. He slept in a large shed and I closed the door at night to prevent mosquitoes from entering.

　As you can see from the photo, his lean and healthy posture, unwavering spirit, and tense concentration were appealing. I believe that we humans have a lot to learn from dog. No matter how late I came home at midnight, he greeted me with waving his tail. I never forget his warm-hearted manner still now.
