　写真は倉賀野町の私の家の三階の窓から見た「榛名富士」【標高１３２１m】です。距離が３０㎞ほど遠く離れてますが、ロープウェイ山頂駅まではっきり見えます。

　ところが、榛名富士に比較的近くであっても、渋川市、榛東村、旧・榛名町などの市町村からでは榛名富士は見えないでしょう。

　同様に、群馬・長野両県に跨る有名な四阿山【標高２３５４m】は群馬県の前橋市や高崎市からは他の山に隠れてしまって見えませんが、何と、埼玉県からはよく見えます。標高が高いので却って遠方からが見えるのです。先日、埼玉県から白銀の四阿山がよく見えました。１５年ほど前、今は亡き友人と登頂したことがあります。

　山に限らず、このような体験は日常生活でよくあることです。例えば、人間関係においても、私たちは近くにいるとなかなか気づき難かったり、また、その人の良さが見えにくいことがありますが、時には離れてみると、その実態が分かることがあります。私たちはいろいろ出掛け、体験を多くし、角度を変え、観点を変えて物や人間の本質を深く捉えたいものです。

　The picture is "Mt. Haruna Fuji" [altitude 1321m] seen from the third floor's window of my house in Kuragano Town. Although the distance is about 30 km away, I can clearly see the summit station of ropeway.

　However, even if it is relatively close to Mt. Haruna, it will not be visible from cities, towns and villages such as Shibukawa-City, old Haruna-town, and Shintoh-village.

　Similarly, the famous Mt. Azumaya [altitude 2354m] which straddles both Gumma and Nagano Prefectures, is hidden behind other mountains, therefore this mountain cannot be seen from Maebashi City or Takasaki City in Gumma Prefecture, but it is clearly visible from Saitama Prefecture. Because of its high altitude, it can be seen from afar. The other day, I could see the silvery Mt. Azumaya from Saitama Prefecture. I had ever climbed this mountain about 15 years ago with my deceased friend.

　Experiences like this are common in our daily life, not only just in the mountains. Even in human relations, when we are too close to them, it is difficult for us to notice their goodness. However, when we go out, or we have much experiences of new thing, change angles, change perspectives, we can seize the opportunity to capture the essence of them or things.
