　今年は例年より春が早く来ていることから、つまり、その原因はあまり喜べない気候変動ですが、今春は、一般的に植物の開花が早いです。ご覧のような君子蘭を６鉢も育ててますが、嬉しいことに今年はあることで成功してます。それは何だと思いますか。

　若き日に、私はクラシックサックスや指揮法で素晴らしい師匠に恵まれましたが、現在、明けても暮れても夢中になってる植物の育て方では師匠がいません。このため、いろいろ失敗を重ねてつつ学ぶ以外にありません。

　今年、やっと分かったことの一つは「君子蘭の花に直射日光を当ててはならない」ことです。直射日光が当たると、必ず花が色褪せてしまいます。しかし、不思議なことにガラス越しに日光を当てると育ちがよく、色褪せません。しかも、素晴らしく生き生きし、長持ちします。

　なお、近年は、このような多年草は庭に直植えせず、例えば、各種のシャクナゲ、ユリなども比較的大きな植木鉢で育ててます。来客があるときなど必要な所へ持ち運びができ、よく鑑賞でき、その場の雰囲気が和やかになります。

　ただ、植木鉢で育てるとき大切なことは、水を切らさぬことと共に、水捌けの良い小粒の軽石を土に混ぜると生き生きしてきます。現在、日当たりのよい南側の廊下では君子蘭のオンパレードで、前の道を通る人にも良く見えるようにしてます。
