レース鳩と共に過ごした充実した人生

　今日５月１０日。日の出時刻は４時４２分、日の入りは１８時３９分、太陽高度は７１°です【群馬県高崎市】。因みに北海道・根室市の日の出は４時丁度であり、日の入りは１８時２９分で、太陽高度は６４°です。太陽高度が７°異なるのは私が住む群馬県高崎市の位置が北緯３６度２０分程であり、根室市の位置が北緯４３度２０分程であり、両市の緯度の差が７°であることに因ります。

　北海道と言えば思い出すのは、半世紀に亘り飼育していたレース鳩の目標となる放鳩地の場所でした。高崎市からの距離は七飯６００Kレース、長万部及び登別７００Ｋレース、余市８００Ｋレース、羽幌９００Ｋレース、そして最北の地である稚内１０００Ｋレースなどでした。

　最後に稚内から我が家に帰ってきた鳩は、１羽で参加した「稚内モザイク号」(写真)で、帰って来たとき胸には爪痕の赤い筋が付いてました。途中で猛禽類の襲撃を受けた傷痕です。鳩を手に持ち「本当に頑張ってよく家まで帰って来た」と心で伝え、長い期間レース鳩を飼育していて初めて涙が出ました。生涯忘れない感動の瞬間です。

　長いことレース鳩を飼っていると珍しいこともあり、私の鳩の１羽が帰巣本能が狂って、内モンゴルまで飛んで行ってしまったことです。先方から連絡を戴いた私は万里の長城の西に位置する内モンゴルの遠方まで飛んだその鳩に1人で会いに行き、鳩に再会し、内モンゴルの人たちとお酒を酌み交わし、鳩を通じて楽しい交流ができました。

　また、イギリスが世界に発行しているレース鳩月刊誌「ピクトリアル」の表紙に私の鳩舎と私が出たことがあり、鳩が「世界平和のシンボル」であることを実感しました。今日から「愛鳥週間」。

　

　　　

Dear my overseas friends who love world peace

　Today May 10th. The sunrise time is 4:42, the sunset is 18:39, and the altitude of the sun is 71° [Takasaki City, Gumma Prefecture, Japan]. By the way, the sunrise in Nemuro-City, Hokkaido is exactly at 4:00, the sunset is at 18:29, and the altitude of the sun is 64°. The reason why the altitude of the sun differs by 7 degrees is that Takasaki City, Gumma Prefecture, where I live, is located at a latitude of 36 degrees 20 minutes north, and Nemuro City is located at a latitude of 43 degrees 20 minutes north.

　When I think of Hokkaido, what comes to mind is the place where the racing pigeons that I had been raising for half a century were released location. Distances from Takasaki-city is Nanae 600K race, Oshamambe and Noboribetsu 700K race, Yoichi 800K race, Haboro 900K race, and the most northernmost place is Wakkanai 1000K race.

　The last pigeon that returned to my loft from Wakkanai was the "Wakkanai Mosaic" which participated in alone. It remained a scar that was attacked by raptors on the way to back. I held the pigeon in my both hand and told him from my heart, "You really did your best and came home marvelously." It is a moving moment that I never forget in my life.

　It is rare matter happened during keeping racing pigeons for a long time. One of my pigeons lost her homing instinct and strayed into Inner Mongolia at Chihnin-town. After receiving a letter from a person there who got my pigeon, so that I went to meet my pigeon that flew to Inner Mongolia which is located to the west of the Great Wall of China. I could meet my pigeon again, and we drank sake with the people of Inner Mongolian pigeon fanciers, and had fun interacting through pigeons.

　Also, my racing pigeon loft and I appeared on the cover of "Pictorial," which is a racing pigeon's monthly magazine published by the UK for all of the world. As the result, these world-wide experiences made me realize that pigeon is a symbol of world peace. It's "Bird Week" from today in Japan.
