野鳥たちに水飲み場を提供しましょう。

　昨日、一昨日と暑かったことから、脱水症状にならぬようこまめな水分補給をしましょうと耳にしました。しかし、庭に来る野鳥にとって、最近の側溝の殆どは蓋で閉められてるため、喉が渇いても水を飲めない状況で困っていると考えられます。

　このため、私は庭に水飲み場を用意し、毎日新たな水に入れ替えてますが、今朝、水を入れ替えようとしたら、水の量が半分になっていました。連日、暑いので多くの野鳥が飲みに来ていることが分かります。

　ご存じの通り、鳥類の体温は人間の体温より５°ほど高く４１°～４２°であり、更に、初夏になっても全身が毛で覆われてることや、自らの体重を支えて空中を飛ぶことにより、かなりのエネルギーを消費すると考えられます。このため野鳥にとって水は本当に不可欠なものです。しかし、水飲み場が不足してます。

　拙い経験では、鳩を飼育してたとき、鳩がレースで遠方から鳩舎に帰って来てすぐにしたことは、餌を啄むより、先ず、水を飲み、喉を潤してました。本当に喉が渇いていたのです。

　これからは庭の野鳥に午後にも水を取り替えてやります。野鳥はこの中に入って気持ちよさそうに水浴するものもいます。

　In my humble experience, when I was raising pigeons, as soon as the pigeons returned to the loft from a distant place such as Hokkaido in the race was to drink water and quench their thirst rather than pecking food. She was really thirsty beyond description.

　From now on, I will change the water in the garden for the wild birds every afternoon as well. Some wild birds enter this drinking water and bathe comfortably.
