和英辞典ほど有難いものはない

　5月下旬に発行された英文対照版「天声人語２０２４春」号をやっと今朝読み終わりました。この本の内容はすでに発表された１月～３月分をまとめたもので、約９０の記事が掲載されてます。それ以来１日平均二つの記事を読み、内容と共に英文に目を通し、英単語の習得が私の主な目的です。１年に４回発行されるので、次回は８月下旬に「２０２４夏号」が発行される予定です。

　このため、これから１ヶ月半は天声人語から解放され、のんびりできます。しかし、この本のお陰で「毎日やるべき課題」が目の前にあり、年齢を重ねた今、大切な生活の一部になってます。

　このため、日々、新たな英単語と出合い、記憶しては忘れます。しかし、脳に定着する一つの良い方法は「実際に使うこと」と感じてます。幼児が言葉を覚えるのと同様に、日々の「行動や自ら言いたい意志と結びつける」ようにし、その点、ブログやフェイスブックは有益であり、有難い機会です。

　辞書には例文がたくさん載っており、これに当て嵌めるようにしてます。辞書とは英和辞典と和英辞典の両方をバランスよく使い、特に「これを英語で何と言うか」という疑問を解決してくれる和英辞典ほど有難いものはありません。

Dear my Facebook friends who are interested in English composition

　I finally finished reading the "VOX POPLLI VOX DEI" that means the Asahi Newspaper's column named Tensei Jingo 2024 Spring issue, which was published in late May, this morning. The contents of the book are a compilation of the articles already published from January to March, and it contains about 90 articles. Since then, I have been reading an average of two articles a day, reading the English text along with the Japanese content, and learning English vocabulary, which is my main purpose. This book is published four times a year, so the next issue of "2024 Summer Issue," will be published in late August.

　Therefore, I will be free from Tensei Jingo until next month and a half and I can relax mentally. However, thanks to this book, I have "tasks to do every day" in front of me, and now that I'm older, they have become an important part of my daily life.

　Because of this, I encounter new English words every day, memorize them, and then forget them. However, I feel that one good way to memorize them in my brain is to "actually use them." Just like the young children learn words, I try to "link them to my daily actions and the desire to say them," and in that respect, Facebook is beneficial and a ideal opportunity for me.

　As you know, the dictionary indicates many example sentences, and I try to fit the words into these. I use both English-Japanese and Japanese-English dictionary in a balanced way. I am of the opinion that there is nothing more useful than a Japanese-English dictionary, which can help me solve questions "how do I say this in English?"
