花から学ぶ心の在りよう

　今の季節に咲く大きな花はハイビスカス【左下】、芙蓉【上】、そしてムクゲ【右下】です。これらの植物は一見してよく似てます。色彩はいろいろあって色だけでは区別はつき難いです。特にハイビスカスと芙蓉は花弁が５枚あり、ムクゲは多少花が小さく、花弁数は多いです。

　毎日よく観察していれば、その違いが分かるようになるでしょう。これらの花を区別するには「葉が違う」ことです。それでも、花の直径は１０cmほどあり「雄大、ゆったり、大らか」などの言葉が似合います。また、３種類とも上を向いて咲き、希望に満ちてます。

　花を観察することにより、その「表情などを自らの生き方と比べる」ことがあります。花の表情から「心の持ちよう」を学ぶことが多いです。

　ところで、今日も私の住む群馬県は３９°と猛暑が予報されてます。テレビが伝える暑さに対する市民のインタービューでは、皆さん、殆どが笑いながら応じてます。寒いときは笑えませんが、「暑いですね」と笑いながら言えるので、暑い方が寒い方よりよいのでしょう。

Dear my friends who like flowers and summer

　The big flowers blooming this season are hibiscus (bottom left), Confederate rose (top), and rose of Sharon (bottom right). At first glance, these plants look very similar. They have a variety of colors, so it's hard to distinguish them just by color. In particular, hibiscus and Confederate rose have five petals, while rose of Sharon is a little smaller and has more petals.

　If we observe carefully every day, we will be able to tell the difference. The difference between these flowers is that their leaves are different. Nevertheless, the flowers are about 10 cm in diameter, and words like "majestic, relaxed, and generous" are appropriate. All three types bloom facing upwards, with full of hope.

　By observing flowers, I sometimes "compare their expressions with my own way of life." I often learn "the right attitude" from the expressions of these flowers.

　By the way, today in Gumma Prefecture, where I live, it is forecast to be 39°C that is extremely hot. In TV interviews of citizens about the heat, most of them respond with a laugh. When it's cold, we can't laugh, but we can say "It's hot with smile, isn't it?" So I guess hot is better than cold.
