看板はローマ字表記より、英語表記が分かりやすい

　この看板は高崎市木部町にあり、新幹線に乗っていても見えます。私のウォーキングコースの土手に設置されてます。ローマ字でも書かれてますが、外国の方に理解されるためにはKabra Riverが良いと思います。KABURAではカビュラと読まれます。GAWAでは意味が分かりません。

　下の写真は鏑川近くの畑の下を掘削したものですが、ご覧の通り、７～８ｍ下の方まで厚い層で石や砂利が詰まってます。有史以前の川の様子が見て取れます。この石たちはきっと数億年ぶりに陽の目を見たのでしょう。

　ところで、今日、私は余りにも垂れ下がって咲いてるサルスベリの枝を可哀そうですが、剪定しました。蕾と花の重さで下がってしまったのです。来客の通り道なので仕方がありません。昔の写真を見たら、１０月では今年のようにたくさん咲いてません。今年は猛暑が影響したと想われ、昨日の写真の通り未だ満開です。

Dear my friends abroad

　This sign is located in Kibe-twon, Takasaki-city, and can be seen from the Shinkansen that means bullet train. It is installed on the bank of my walking course. It is written in Roman letters, but I think Kabra River is better for foreigners to understand. KABURA is pronounced Kabjura. GAWA does not understand for foreigners, I guess.

　The photo below shows an excavation under the field near the Kabra River, and as you can see, a thick layer of stones and gravel is filled up to 7-8 meters below. We can see what the river looked like before history. These stones must have seen the light of sun for the first time in hundreds of millions of years.

　By the way, today I pruned the branches of a crepe myrtle in the garden that were drooping too much, even though I felt sorry for them. They had drooped due to the weight of the buds and flowers. It can't be helped since it is a path for visitors. Looking at old photos, crepe myrtle did not bloom as profusely in October as this year. I think this year's extreme heat in Japan has had an effect as you can see in yesterday's photo, they are still in full bloom this year.
