今朝、朝飯前に汗を拭き拭き作業

　昨日、埼玉県花園町の植木センターで手に入れた「八重の枝垂れ桜」を、今朝６時半から築山の上に穴掘りし、植えることができました。実は、この作業の前に、ここに植わっていた真っ赤な花桃を前の道のそばに植え替えたので作業が二つになりました。

　思い立ったら吉日とばかり、正に「朝飯前」の作業です。空気は冷たくても、汗拭き拭きの作業です。そばで「お茶です。」という人はいないので、人参ジュースをコップ一杯飲んで、作業続けました。

　それでも、昨日のうちに腐葉土と赤土を用意して置いたので、途中困難もありましたが、作業は順調に進み、植えてから水をたっぷり与え、その後、我に戻って外の道からゆっくり眺めたときは予定した通りに植えられ「やれやれ」と思いました。

　寒い寒いと言っても、立春過ぎの気候です。ここは日当たりが抜群で、近くには井戸水の水道があり、水はたっぷり与えられます。暫くは様子を見守りつつ、大切に育てます。全体のスタイルや枝ぶりなど素性が良いので、先ずは大きく育てることに専念します。築山の上で「八重の枝垂れ桜」が開花したら、観賞にいらして下さい。私がお茶を差し入れます。

　I was able to dig a hole at 6:30 this morning on the hill, and planted the "double weeping cherry tree" which I bought at a tree center in Hanazono-town, Saitama Prefecture yesterday. Actually, before this work, I replanted the red peach tree that was planted here near the road in front, so I ended up doing two jobs.

　It was a piece of cake to do this job. Even though the air was cold, I was wiping off the sweat. As you know, no one was nearby to offer me tea, so I drank a glass of carrot juice and continued working.

　Even so, I had prepared leaf mold and red soil yesterday, so although there were some difficulties along the way, the work went smoothly, and after planting, I gave the weeping sherry plenty of water. Later, when I came to my senses and looked at it from the road outside, I was relieved to see that it was planted as planned.

　Even though it's cold, the weather is after "Risshun" that is the beginning of spring in Japan. Here, the sun shines brightly, and there is a well water tap nearby, so I can give it plenty of water. I will keep an eye on it for a while and raise it with care. The overall style and the shape of the branches of this weeping cheery are good, so I will concentrate on raising it big. When this double weeping cherry blooms on the hill, please come and see it. I will offer you tea.
