会えなかった祖父母に思いを馳せつつウォーキング

　推定、明治２０年ころ、栃木に嫁に行った私の祖母が一旦故郷・原道村に戻り、近くに住んでた私の祖父と利根川の岸から夜逃げ同然に江戸からの運搬船に乗り込み、遠く離れ、知ってる人のいない倉賀野河岸で下船し、生活を始めたことを先日書きました。

　このため、私の命があるのは祖父祖母の大胆な行動のお陰です。

　写真の看板は土手の上にあり、この界隈一帯は私のウォーキングコースでもある倉賀野河岸跡です。今日もこれから夕食前に、私が生まれた時はすでにこの世にいなかった祖父祖母に思いを馳せて歩きます。

　I recently wrote about that presumably around 1887, my grandmother who had married and moved to Tochigi Prefecture, returned to Haramichi-Village which is her homeland and, together with my grandfather, who lived nearby, practically fled in the middle of the night from the banks of the Tone River, by boarding a transport ship from Edo. They disembarked at Kuragano-Riverbank, far away and unknown to anyone, and began their lives at Kuragano.

　As a result, my life exists thanks to bold actions of my grandparents.

　The sign in the photo is the area of old Kuragano-Riverbank, which is one of the routes of my walking course. This evening, I will walk with thinking about my grandparents who were in Heaven when I was born.
