果たして来年実るか、成長著しいイチヂク

　１０年ほど前、東隣の土地が売りに出たので、生まれて初めて２０坪ほどの土地を買いました。今まで東の境界が斜めだったので、まっすぐにして塀を作りたかったからです。ご覧の通り、今ではお気に入りの塀が出来てます。広くなったところには枇杷、金柑(左)、梅、花桃などを植えたら、毎年、実が良く生ります。

　その後、１年半ほど前に今度はイチヂクの幼木を植えたところ、どうしたことでしょう。成長が著しく、すでに３m近くの高さになりました。実は、イチヂクの近くに愛車ＴＴの車庫があり、ご覧のように、その屋根に降った雨水を溜めてます。元々、両親が戦時中に使った防火用水が８０年経過した今、役に立ってます。このため、水遣りはすぐにでき、今夏の暑さも手伝って見る見るうちに大きくなりました。

　こんなことでも人間の私には希望が湧いてくるものです。見るからに健康そうですくすく成長してます。早くも来年には実る気配です。やはり、植物には充分な水が不可欠です。雨水なので費用はただです。今年はフェイスブック友人が枇杷や梅を捥ぎにいらして楽しい時間が過ごせました。来年は美味しいイチヂクです。梅ちゃん、お待ちしてます。

　About 10 years ago, the land next place to the east came up for sale, so for the first time in my life, I bought a plot of about 66 sq. m. The eastern boundary had been diagonal, so I wanted to straighten it out and build a fence. As you can see, I now have a favorite fence. I planted loquats, kumquats (left), plums, and flowering peach in the new area, as a result, they produced a ton of fruit every year.

　Then, about a year and a half ago, I planted a young fig tree there, and guess what? It's grown so well, it's already nearly 3 meters tall. In fact, the garage for my beloved Audi TT Quattro is located near the fig tree, so that as you can see, it collects rainwater on its roof. It was originally a fire-fighting water that my parents used during the World War Ⅱ, and now, 80 years later, it's still useful. Therefore I can water it quickly, and with the added help of this summer's heat in Japan, it's grown in no time.

　Even things like this result give me hope. It looks healthy and is growing vigorously. It looks like she'll bear fruits as early as next year. As expected, plants need plenty of water. It's rainwater, so it's free charge. This year, Facebook friend came to pick loquats and plums, so we had a great time. Next year, I'll have delicious figs. I can't wait for that day. Oh, but before that, there will be plenty of nutritious kumquats this winter. I'll be waiting for your coming.
