英文をローマ字読みする習慣を取り去りたい

　「これを英語で何と言うか」という観点に絞っているので、私は和英辞典を引くことが多く、可能な限り、例文を参考にしてノートに書いて、発音記号により発音し、英単語を覚えようと心掛けてます。しかし、結果的に記憶できるのは３割程度でしょう。後は、繰り返しと思います。

　英和辞典は確認のために引いてます。故に、日々、辞書を引く回数が多く、辞書を引くことは新たな事を知れるので楽しいです。先ず、単語数を「数増す」ことと自らに言い聞かせてます。ただ、気をつけたいのは、小学校時代に習ったローマ字が生涯に亘って「英語の発音にマイナス」になってます。英語とローマ字は発音の仕方が異なるのに、テレビのアナウンサーなども英語をローマ字読みすることが多く、その原因は小学校時代に遡ります。

　因みに、写真の花は 日本語でコスモスですが、ローマ字の影響を受け、英語でもコスモスと読みやすく、cosmosはアメリカ英語の発音は「数増す」に近いです。単語の o の上にアクセントがある場合は多くの場合が「a」になります。第２アクセントであっても「a」になることが多いです。また、頻繁に使う of もオブと言いがちですが、アヴに近いです。これだけでもローマ字から抜け出し、英語らしい発音になります。

　ところで、植物が好きな私はウォーキング中もカメラを携えて、景色と共に植物や花を撮るようにしてます。写真は日ごとに「数増す」コスモスの花です。

　Since I'm narrowing my focus to "how do I say this in English," I often look up words in a Japanese-English dictionary. As possible as, I use example sentences as a reference, write them down in a notebook, and pronounce them by using phonetic symbols, then I am trying to memorize the English words. However, I can probably only memorize about 30% of the words, I guess. The rest is that just repetition is indispensable.

　I use the English-Japanese dictionary just to increase my vocabulary. Therefore, I look up words in the dictionary many times every day, therefore, I enjoy doing so because I learn new things. First of all, I tell myself to "increase" vocabulary is essential. However, it's important to be careful, the romaji I learned in elementary school can have a negative impact on my English pronunciation throughout my life. Even though English and romaji are pronounced entirely differently, TV announcers often pronounce English using romaji, so this reason is back to elementary school dates.

　The flower in the photo is called kosumosu in Japanese, but due to the influence of romaji, it tends to pronounce "kosumosu" in English as well. American English pronunciation of "cosmos" is closer to "increase in number in Japanese." When there is an accent above o in a word, it is often pronounced "a." Even when there is a secondary accent, it is often pronounced "a." This alone helps us an English-like pronunciation.

　By the way, I love plants, so I always carry my camera with me when I go for walks and try to take pictures of plants and flowers along with the scenery. The photo shows cosmos flowers, which are "increasing in number" in Japanese day by day.
