高校時代の恩師に感謝しきれない

　今後の生活にプラスにならないこと。それは昔を振り返ることで、しないように努めてます。しかし、若き日に忘れられないこと、感謝すべきことはあります。私の現役時代は「高校音楽教育に没頭でき」自分によく合った職業だったと心から思えます。この遠因は高校時代に出会った「音楽のＨ先生との出会いがすべて」で、その後の人生を決定し、人との出会いが変わりました。

　Ｈ先生ご指導の下、吹奏楽部でサキソフォーンを吹いてましたが、進路で音楽に進むことは家庭事情からあり得ず、私自身もその気は毛頭なく過ごしてましたが、ある日、「ピアノを始めなさい。」と、強い指導がありました。しかし、家にピアノはなく、朝早く学校の音楽室で練習し、３ヶ月でバイエルを終え、その後はチェルニー３０番、ハノン、ソナチネ、ソナタとやりました。

　英語が好きだったのは、やはり高校2年の時、テストで９８点を取り、二番手の人が７０点台でした。この時の勉強法は試験範囲を数回全文書き取りです。すると教師が出題する大切な所が自ずと分かり、山が当たったのです。それ以来、英語が好きになり、半世紀以上に亘り、今日まで英語に関わり続けてます。

　音楽と英語のお陰で、最初の就職はインド日本人学校教員に決まり、滞在中カルカッタ交響楽団のユダヤ人指揮者Bernard Jacob氏に指揮法を習うことに繋がり、これは若き日の大きな体験でした。帰国後、高崎商業吹奏楽部定期演奏会や前橋高校での「優曇華」演奏会に結びつきました。高齢期になった今でもピアノを弾いてるのは、若き日のH先生の強いご指導に他なりません。感謝感謝です。先生は天に召されてます。人生１００年時代、楽しい音楽と英語は続けたい。

　I try not to look back on my past and forget past that doesn't benefit me for my future. However, there are some things from my youth that I can't forget and am grateful for. During my active years, I was able to immerse myself in high school music education, and it was a career that suited me well. The underlying reason for this was my encounter with music teacher Mr. Hatoba during high school period, which determined the course of my life and changed the people I encountered.

　As I remember from my second year of high school. I scored 98 points on an English test, while the next best student scored in the 70s. My study method at the time was to write down the entire test book's radius several times. As the result, I naturally understood the important points the teacher's intention, and hit the jackpot. Since then, I've developed a love for English, and have been involved with English since over half a century ago to today.

　Thanks to music and English, I got my first job as a teacher at the Japanese School in India at Calcutta, and while I was there, I was taught conducting by Mr. Bernard Jacob who was the Jewish conductor of the Calcutta Symphony Orchestra, which was a great experience for me in my youth. After returning to Japan, this led to the conducting the Takasaki Commercial High School Wind Orchestra's regular concert and the "Udongara" concert at Maebashi High School. The fact that I'm still playing the piano in my old age is due to the strong guidance of teacher Mr. Hatoba in my youth. I'm very grateful. But, he has already passed away. In this era of 100-year lifespans, I want to continue enjoying music and English.
