　平野でも久々に積もった雪で、概して大人は困った人が多かったです。娘は所用で東京へ行きましたが、行きは問題なくとも、帰路に関越道が不通で、一般道での帰宅となり、ラインによると家に着いたのが夜大分遅かったようです。

　一方、近所の子供たちは「雪だるま」を作って大はしゃぎでした。特に、生まれて初めて雪を見る小さな子供もいて驚いたことでしょう。今朝は路面が凍ってるので徒歩も車も要注意です。

　庭のサルスベリは７月～１０月まで約１００日間、真っ赤に咲く樹木ですが、今回は、ご覧の通り、真っ白です。しかも、雪の重みで枝が少々下がり、全体として、とてもバランスのよい理想的な樹形になってます。

　今回の雪によって水分が地下に十分蓄えられ、今後、天候が回復すれば、植物には恵みの雪となり、春にまた一歩近づきます。関東に雪を降らせた湾岸低気圧は明日には太平洋に抜けるでしょう。自然は脅威と恩恵を齎します。

美しい姿の浅間山、しかし、活火山を忘れまい！

　一昨日の寒さで浅間山に初冠雪がありました。この写真は昨日の午後３時に木部町の鏑川の土手をウォーキング中に撮影しました。一日経過しましたが、北側【右側】の「鬼押し出」の上の方が微かに白く見えます。

　一方、ご覧の通り、頂上【２５６８m】の火口から噴煙が勢いよく立ち上ってます。２０代のとき西の小諸側から１回、東の群馬県「峰の茶屋」側から２回登頂し、利根川の蛇行など関東平野が一望できる景色の素晴らしさが今でも脳裏に焼き付いてます。頂上は一周１kmほどある巨大な噴火口です。

　火口は桶の如く垂直に切り立っており、深さは推定２００mほどです。いずれのときも火口内の崖の途中から煙が出ており、硫黄の匂いがしました。この状況が数百万年前から続いているのでしょう。特に、天明３年【１７８３年】の大噴火では、今でも鎌原村が埋没したままといわれます。

　美しい姿の浅間山ですが、活火山なので今後も十分に注意しなくてはなりません。私が中学生のときも大噴火し、噴煙が５０００mほど立ち上り、その後、風に乗った火山灰が５０㎞離れた私の倉賀野町でも音を立てて降った記憶があります。

忘れがちな生命の源・・・ダムの貯水量が減少

　先日、日本列島を襲来した巨大な台風６号、及び７号の進路予報を見たとき、私は内心、つい関東地方からずれてほしいと思っていました。今回、西日本に深刻な被害をもたらし、心よりお見舞い申し上げます。

　実は、私が子供のときの記憶で、群馬県ではカスリーン台風(死者・数百名)など２度ほど大きな被害が出た体験が蘇りました。２度目の時(昭和４１年)は強風により、平野に住む私の家の瓦も飛んでしまいました。

　ところで、現在、関東地方は水不足が進んでいると伝えられます。群馬県最北部に位置する八木沢ダムの貯水量は３５％、写真の八ッ場ダムの貯水量は７３％と少なくなり、日々、益々減少していると報道されてます。

　普段、私たちは「蛇口を捻れば水が出ることが当たり前」の生活に慣れてます。しかし、もし、ダムの水が空になれば、蛇口を捻っても水が出ず、一日として生きていけない現実にあります。これについては、大昔から現代にも共通することで、私が子供の頃、水不足になると、先ず農業にとっては各地で「水争い」が起こりました。

　今は亡き母は「井戸を決して潰してはいけないよ。」と強く言ってた言葉が今でも私の脳裏に焼き付いてます。明治生まれの母は人生途上で、きっと大変な水不足を体験したのでしょう。私は今でもこの忠告を守り、毎日井戸水を使って、風呂水として使ったり、たくさんある庭の植物に水遣りして、井戸の恩恵に浴してます。使った水は地下へと循環し、再度、井戸に貯まるという再生可能資源の最たるものです。

　以前に南の島の王様が日本を訪れたとき、東京はもちろん、新幹線にも乗って、各地の名所旧跡を見て回り、美味しいものも召し上がって帰国の途に就くとき、「日本で一番印象に残ったものは何ですか。」の記者の質問に「水道の蛇口です。」と意外な答えだったと言われます。捻れば飲み水が出るとは不思議だったようです。地球上では現在でも、遠くから水を運び生活している人たちが多くいるのです。

巨大な渦巻き・・・台風７号

　画像は気象衛星によるもので、今朝６時４０分の台風７号の様子です。画像からも、すでに近畿地方に上陸していることが分かります。

雨水は 金もかからず 意外と便利

昨日の 自然の猛威 暫くぶり

　昨日の夕方６時１０分頃から３０分間ほど、群馬県高崎市は突然の豪雨と横殴りの物凄い風の夕立に見舞われ、自然の猛威の恐ろしさを感じました。こんなことは最近ありませんでした。

　娘たちは無事に電車から降りてきましたが、帰宅するまでの道路は物凄い雨の量で、水路は溢れて、道路は川のようになり車はその中を走りました。
　
　私は植物をたくさん育ててることから、日々、自然の恩恵を感じてますが、昨日はいつにない自然の猛威を肌で感じ、この現象こそ気候変動の一端なのでしょう。
