　私の誕生日に咲き出したサルスベリ【百日紅】が今日１０月２４日で、その名の通り１００日間、咲いてます。同時に、紅葉も始まっており不思議な光景です。このサルスベリに肖り、私は何事も永く継続できる精神と健康を維持したいです。ご覧の通り、南国の樹木らしく樹木が横に広がることから、枝の端から端まで８mあり、夏には広い日陰を作ってくれます。

　土の表面が乾いたら栄養として水を遣り、小さい赤い蟻やカメムシなど害虫駆除など不断の世話をしてます。また、四方八方から全体像を眺めつつ、スタイルが良くなるように時々は剪定です。サルスベリは今後、約半年間は落葉したままとなり、来年４月下旬に新芽を吹き出します。

　一方、玄関前には半日陰を好むユッカは別名「青年の樹」と呼ばれ、「勇壮」の花言葉と、尖ったシルエット、上へと伸びてゆく力強さから、成長・発展シンボルとされています。これは退職時に前高の保護者からプレゼントされたもので、いつまでも大切に育てます。

　また、右の植物は、先日、ラジオ体操仲間から戴いた「金の生る木」です。米国経済のダウ、ナスダックに肖り、未だ小さいですが、経済の再生を期して、大きく育てたいです。このように、一般家庭ではおそらく倉賀野一多くの植物を育ててる私にとって、植物たちは家族であり、一人暮らしの感覚はありません。でも、本当は人間が大好きなのです。近くに来られた時は立ち寄ってください。樹木に囲まれてお茶を飲みましょう。

植物の生態と人生を重ねてみる

　枝の広がりを見ると一般住宅の樹木としては、かなり巨木になりつつあるサルスベリですが、７月下旬になって、やっと２分咲きです。下にいると、一見して咲いていることに気づきませんが、よく見ると梢にちらほら咲いている感じです。あと１週間後の８月になれば、フェイスブックを通じて皆さんに満開の様子をご覧に入れられると予想してます。人生に花が咲かない私ですが、サルスベリはこれから情熱的に燃え上がる気配です。

　写真左下は柿沼家の柿です。一昨年、地上から１mほどの幹に新芽が出たことから、私は思い切って今までの幹をすべて切り落としましたら、その新芽がみるみる成長し、昨年既に実が生り、以前より甘かったです。今年は、現在の時点で８０個ほど実が付いており、今後、風雨の激しさや野鳥により減っても、かなり収穫できるでしょう。柿が好きな方は味見にいらして下さい。

　一方、昨日は驚きました。何の気配もなかった場所に急に茎が伸びて来てピンクの花が咲いたからです。むかし、両親はこの植物を「びっくり草」と呼んでました。今朝も私は本当にびっくりぽんです。何しろ、何もない所に急に姿を見せ急に咲くのです。人生も急展開して、良い方向に行けばいいのですが、びっくり草の生き方に肖りたいです。

緑の中に映えるユリの天真爛漫さ

　宇宙にぼっかり浮いている地球上で、始まりもない、終わりもない時間の中で私たちは生きてます。ついこの間、令和６年になるや否や能登半島で大地震が起こり、今年はどうなるかと思いました。その今年も今日で５ヶ月が終わりで、光陰矢の如しです。

　群馬県でも、昨夜から今朝にかけて大分雨が降り、ユリを始め植物たちは温暖な今の季節を謳歌してます。このユリのように私も心身ともに生き生きして生活したいものです。
　　
　今日は先程、イチジクの苗を裏庭に植えました。子供の頃、イチジクをよく食べたので、美味しかった味が忘れられず、半世紀以上経ってからまた植えました。

　明日は孫娘たち二人(小４、小１)を預かることになってるので、群馬の珍しい所へ連れて行き、刺激を与えるつもりです。

直射日光に弱い・・・シャクヤクの大輪

　すぐに玄関の中に入れ、根元に水をたっぷり与えたら少し持ち直してきたのでホッとしました。実は、この芍薬は未だ咲き始めたところで、人にあまり見てもらってません。このまま花が終わりになったらもったいないです。

　芍薬は球根なので毎年３月末に芽が出て５月に咲きます。夕日は殊のほか暑く、人間だって１時間も直射日光に当たっていれば健康を害します。植物には陽が当たった方が良いものと、直射日光を嫌うものがあることを今更ながら痛感しました。

色彩美を呈する「源平枝垂れ」の幼木

　築山の「源平枝垂れ桃」から種が零れて生えた子供が、このように咲くようになりました。花の色は親と異なり、ご覧のように、赤とピンクの絞りです。因みに親はピンクと白です。

　幹がくねっているのは、生後1年の頃、私が少しずつ曲げて元に戻らないように紐で縛っておき、数か月後に紐を解いたら、そのまま曲がったままになりました。このまま生涯に亘り曲ったまま大きくなるでしょう。樹形としては見応えがあります。

　人間の場合も同様に、子は必ずしも親と同じ生き方をしなくても、いくらでも人生として、また異なる花が咲くのではないでしょうか。

　一方、若いうちにしっかり方向性をつけて上げると、そのまま成長するでしょう。それにしても、源平枝垂れ桃は、優しく枝垂れ、華やかな色彩を呈し、一人暮らしの私を応援してくれています。私は水を毎日与えてます。
